Their reasons for leaving are varied: some will take a year of sabbatical, some have terminated their interim contracts, some are retiring, and some have been of fered opportunities elsewhere. In the division of Environmental Sci ence, Mathematics, and Natural Science, the division chair, Dr. Larry Ragsdale, will be retiring at the end of this semester. Also leaving the ESMNS division, though only for one year, will be Dr. Jennifer Frick, As sistant Professor of Environmental Stud ies and Ecology and director of the Ecol ogy major. Dr. Frick will use her sabbatical year m conjunction with a grant from the Appala chian College Association to write a book based on her column in the Transylvania Times, “Appalachian Almanac. The divisions of Social Science an Humanities will suffer the losses of Dr. Robert Bauslaugh and Ms. Betsy Burrows for a sabbatical year as well. Dr Bauslaugh says that he will use this time to finish two books he has been working on for some time; one for scholars on the Hellenistic period of Greek history, and one for non-scholars entitled Dar al Harb (Arabic for The Abode of iVar). “I’m looking forward to the year, Bauslaugh said, “but 1 always miss teach- i„8 «hen I'm not “ ' look forward to returning m fall 2006. The accident occurred on Highway 64 between Cummings Cove Road and Ban ner Farm Road when Caleb Fisher, 20, of Lake Toxay crossed the yellow line, crash ing head-on into 18-year-old Chaise Jeffery “C.J.” Ladas. Fisher had been driving his silver 2000 GMC Jimmy highly intoxicated. When hu Ladas’ blue 1980 Ford pushed into the ditch, where the gas tank Lploded, causing both vehicles to catch on fire. Someone nearby was able to save Fisher but was unable to remove Ladas from ^Fisher was listed in fair condition Wednesday at Memorial Mission Hospit in Asheville, suffering from hip displace ment and other injuries.
